In its quest to encourage innovative business ideas, the Namibia Business Innovation Centre (NBIC) ran its annual Business Idea Competition from March until May 2013. The competition drew 80 entries, 30 more than the previous year, with five of the ideas being awarded for their hard work.
“We at the NBIC realise the cornerstone of any business is the foundation or better yet, the idea that requires a foundation. It is with this in mind that we see the importance of encouraging the development of ideas in order to turn them into viable businesses” said Hasekiel Johannes, NBIC’s Innovation Marketplace Officer. “This year was very encouraging, we received very high quality ideas. They showed us that our aspiring entrepreneurs are challenging themselves to come up with innovative ideas as opposed to the usual ones. We also took pride in receiving 24 ideas coming from towns besides Windhoek”.
NBIC with assistance from the Bank of Namibia (BON) present the top five candidates with prizes.
The top ten participants also received a 16 GB memory stick and an opportunity to attend training and workshops at NBIC.
Angela von Wietersheim, NBICs Manager: Innovation Marketplace encouraged participants to take part in moire programmes, including the Business Plan Competition currently running.
