Papa at Afro Festival
Prominent visual artist and singer Ndasuunje Papa Shikongeni, also known as Papa and Etondo Band, will be representing Namibia at the Afro Festival, a cultural event organised annually at the Museum of African Art. This year’s festival takes place in June in Belgrade.
This is the first time that Namibia will be represented at the festival. This forms part of an initiative by Vice Chairperson of the National Art Gallery Board of Trustees, Draga Boskovic to revive the relationship that existed between Namibia and Yugoslavia.
Being the Project Coordinator for the Afro Festival, Boskovic realized after attending three years of the festival that other African countries were represented and not Namibia. Shikongeni will depart on 19 June for Belgrade, and will perform on 22 June with other musicians from all over Africa.
