Musical Thursdays at Kalabar
The popular Kalabar, on the Windhoek Hilton Hotel’s first floor, has become the venue for a weekly live music performance. Following a number of pilot appearances in April and May, the scene is set, every Thursday from 19:00 to 22:00, for smaller music groups to come and show Windhoek audiences and international visitors what they have on offer.
The Kalabar music calendar was opened by Tequila, the songstress who won the ‘Female Artist of the Year’ at the NAMAS awards last year.
Following the success of her latest recording, ‘Unbreakable’, Tequila embraced the opportunity to perform ‘live’ again, something she used to do quite regularly in the days of the ‘old’ Warehouse Theatre. Her style is to perform in an intimate setting, accompanied by keyboard and bass, almost in touch with the audience.
The Hilton’s weekly entertainment project runs under the brand “Jazz-Etcetera” in collaboration with Ondjila Y’Ondjaba Concert Agency. The focus is on established performers but the stage is also open to newcomers. The Hilton invites all Windhoekers to join them and their resident guests every Thursday in the Kalabar for smooth and warm jazz sounds interspersed with soul, African music and R&B.
HAPPY HOUR – The Kalabar offers international cocktails, exquisite wines and a choice of beers, ciders and cool-drinks. During happy hour, that is from 17:00 to 19:00 Monday through Friday, patrons buy 1 and get 1 free ‘on the house’ from amongst a wide range of wines, beers and ciders.
