Ministry of Justice to formulate new laws to combat gender violence

The Ministry of Justice last weeks said that they are in the process of formulating new laws to deal with the influx of gender violence (GBV), as reported by Xinhua.

The ministry, the new laws would allow for tougher prison sentences due to the increasing number of GBV cases in the country, which have been linked to high unemployment and alcohol abuse, among other factors.

According to Nampol, more than 7,000 GBV cases were recorded in 2019, however, about 2,600 of the cases opened were withdrawn, the police said, noting that most of the victims who withdrew the cases were women.
