The Gobabeb Research and Training Centre recently received an upgrade to their solar system, funded through the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The official handover took place at the centre during the national Biodiversity Action Day hosted by the centre in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
The upgrade was done on the converters which aid managing the electricity supply generated by solar radiation. The solar system at Gobabeb is currently generating electricity for the entire complex.
According to German Ambassador, Onno Hueckmann, using such an important and powerful source of energy from nature, without exploiting or damaging it, is a great step towards the goal of conserving the environment. “The German Government is proud to be supporting Gobabeb’s excellent work since more than 15 years now by means of its SADC contribution through the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Further support was recently shown through the funding of an essential upgrade to the solar panels that are installed here at Gobabeb,” said Annegret al-Janabi, who spoke on behalf of Ambassador Hueckmann.
