This week Old Mutual celebrated the excellence and achievement of a hard-working group of school principals who have successfully undergone leadership development under the auspices of the Old Mutual Principals’ Academy and the Africa Leadership Institute.
Since inception in 2007, Old Mutual has contributed an amount of N$2.238 million for this regular leadership development programme and over 241 school principals from across Namibia have to date benefitted from this initiative.
Over the past few years, Old Mutual and countless communities had the privilege of being able to witness the transformation that has been brought about through the Principals’ Academy.
To ensure the sustainability of the programme an amount of N$486,500 was allocated to support the academy for this year.
On behalf of Old Mutual, Sakaria Nghikembua congratulated all the leaders who graduated and shared some thoughts on leadership with the principals. “True leadership,” he said, “includes the ability to envision better futures, the ability to galvanize others to act on one’s vision, and being able to cultivate confidence all round; employing the benefits of ambidexterity in approach, and effectively combining hard and soft skills and ultimately to apply all these abilities to serve the cause of greater humanity.”
“The true test of the value you can add will not merely be how well your school performs academically going forward, but whether you will now dedicate your entire being to the full service of humanity”, Nghikembua said.
“We have seen how individuals who have gone through this programme have grown in their professional and personal lives and how they have become more focused leaders with increased energy, vision and initiative.”
“We believe in this initiative and will continue to play our part in ensuring that we collectively tackle the educational challenges that we face as a nation.”
