A Memorandum of Understanding was recently signed between Namdeb and the NCCI branch in Oranjemund to promote harmonious relationships and promote co-operation for information sharing on investment opportunities, infrastructure and new projects.
Further strengthening the relationship between the diamond miner and the local chamber, the two held a fund raising dinner to improve the branch services to the Oranjemund business community.
Speaking at the event which was held under the theme “Driving the economy to a sustainable future” Dr Frans Aupa Indongo who was the guest of honour commended Namdeb and business leaders of Oranjemund for their contribution to the Namibian economy. “I am really happy to be here in the southern corner of Namibia, at Oranjemund the hidden jewel of Namibia. Oranjemund has contributed hugely to the national economy over the years. In this regard I would like to congratulate the mining industry and business leaders of Oranjemund for what they have achieved so far,” he said.
“With the proclamation of Oranjemund town, the role that SMEs ( Small and Medium Enterprises) are expected to play will be no different from elsewhere around the country. We must face the realities and accept that large business entities like Namdeb alone cannot be expected to develop and sustain the town’s economy. Thus the pressure will be on entrepreneurs and owners of SMEs in future, to grow this town. The onus is on us business men and women to create employment opportunities for the residents of this town so that they are able to cater for their own basic needs and pay for services provided by the town council,” said Oranjemund NCCI Branch Chairperson Israel Kalenga.
