3rd career fair in Katutura

With the aim to provide career guidance, Young Achievers will host the 3rd annual Katutura Career Fair at the Habitat Resource Centre on 07 June 2013 under the theme: “Opportunities for the Youth to Expand Career Horizons”.
The Career Fair is an annual event organized by the Young Achievers Empowerment Project,a youth- led organization in Katutura, as part of their aim of making sure that 100% of the youth who go through the programme make it to tertiary education and finally graduate.
The Career Fair is designed to showcase, inspire and educate the youth on the vast number of career paths and opportunities available to them.
The event will bring together different schools from Katutura as well as out-of-school youth who will be exposed to different careers. A number of ministries, private organizations; local and international organizations as well as academic institutions are expected to show case the different career opportunities in their respective faculties.
The opening ceremony will be addressed by the Junior Mayor of the City of Windhoek, as well as the founder of Young Achievers Dr. Pandu Hailonga Van Dijk who will share her story of growing up in Katutura and how she succeeded.
According to the Young Achievers Marketing and Publicity Officer, Pius Iikwambi, the fair will provide pupils and youth from Katutura and the surrounding with experts from various industries and professions, to share their experiences and impart valuable knowledge and insights on career paths and choices.
He said this year’s career fair will also engage the out-of-school youth to expose them to different vocational training institutions that they can enrol in.
He further encouraged learners and out-of-school youth to make use of this opportunity, and attend this important event. “Young Achievers focuses on empowering them, by teaching the youth how to fish as opposed to giving them the fish and this makes them independent.”
“This is an opportunity too for organizations to connect directly with tomorrow’s workforce and provide employment and career information to prospective employees. To our fellow youth, please make a turn. Become a constructive builder of your own career path and let us contribute to Vision 2030 in a small way,” he said.
Young Achievers Empowerment Project is a youth group that aims to provide young people, with a sense of vision and mission in life. The group meets every Saturday at the Multi-Purpose Center to discuss and motivate the youth on issues pertinent to youth development.
