FNB Namibia has issued a press statement in which they have expressed their pride on the achievements of staff member, Gideon Nasilowski. Gideon who is handicapped recently participated in the SASAPD National Championships for the Physically Disabled held in Pretoria and last week in Port Elizabeth for the SA National Aquatic Championships 2013.
Gideon Nasilowski, who seems to have been dubbed “The Brave Swimmer” by FNB colleagues, competed in the 50meter breaststroke, 50meter backstroke, 50meter freestyle and the 100meter breaststroke in Pretoria. Says Gideon: “In the 100meter breaststroke I broke the Namibian record with 43 seconds and I achieved one of my goals to get an A-Qualifying standard for World Championships in Canada this year in August. I am a proud Namibian athlete and it makes me proud to see how the sport grows. I am proud of our team that did so well that we ended 4th overall at the SASAPD National Championships for the Physically Disabled with only three swimmers.”
In Port Elizabeth Gideon could not swim for almost 2 whole days due to the condition of the water but when he went in he managed his A qualifying standard for World Championships in Canada. He said: “This competition opened my eyes again that life might throw things in your path but you have to overlook them and be strong and persevere.”
Ian Leyenaar, CEO of FNB Namibia, said that the whole of FNB was behind Gideon and the bank supports him in a variety of ways. “We know that Gideon has persevered against all odds. He set himself goals and is constantly trying to achieve and beat those goals. We are proud of him and know that with this caliber staff FNB Namibia will surely be the number one bank in the country.”
