World-renowned football commentator lends iconic voice to new football season ad

From his dramatic and poetic delivery to the perfect-pitch and pace to any English Premier League and many other international cup tournament games, there’s no doubt that Peter Drury’s holds one of the most recognised voices in football.
And stating this week, DStv viewers will be treated to the man himself as he delivers DStv’s newest TV marketing campaign for SuperSport to whet Africa’s football fans’ appetite ahead of the 2019/20 football season under the tagline, “It’s Always Football Time!”
SuperSport football fans are familiar and love the tones of Drury, a man sometimes labelled ‘football’s poet’, from his extensive work in the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League amongst others. Not one for the limelight, Drury, who describes himself as “a man who shouts footballer’s names for a living”, narrates a piece which hypes fans up for the upcoming season which air live and in HD on SuperSport. Drury is known for the extensive research and preparation he does before matches, but it is his poetic turn of phrase which makes his voice as an accompaniment to football such a pleasure. Perhaps his most famous piece of commentary came from the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League when Roma incredibly defeated Barcelona 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico to advance into the semi-finals of the competition. “Roma have risen from their ruins! Manolas, the Greek God in Rome! The unthinkable unfolds before our eyes. This was not meant to happen, this could not happen… this is happening!” exclaimed Drury, as the Italian side claimed an extraordinary victory.
“When it comes to delivering the best quality football, many soccer fans know to look no further than the World of Champions,” said the CEO of SuperSport Gideon Khobane.
“It’s with this in mind that we wanted to celebrate and usher in the new season of football in style to reassure our loyal and passionate football fans on SuperSport that we will continue to deliver the best local and international football leagues, and who none other than Peter Drury to deliver this message,” he added.
