‘Hurricane’ Katrina out – Andjaba in, as acting Education Minister

The President, HE Dr. Hage Geingob on Wednesday appointed Hon. Martin Andjaba, Minister in the Presidency as acting Minister in the portfolio of Education, Arts and Culture.

The move by the President follows the resignation of the Minister of Education, Arts and Culture, Hon. Katrina Hanse-Himarwa on Tuesday.

“With seven months left before the end of term of the current government, coupled with the rights of Hon. Hanse-Himarwa under Article 47 (2) (a) of the Namibian Constitution, President Geingob has decided not to appoint a new Minister in the Education, Arts and Culture portfolio,” the Presidency said in a statement.

According to the statement, Andjaba will assume all statutory functions of the Minister of Education, Arts and Culture as acting Minister, and the deputy-Minister, Hon. Anna Nghipondoka will deputize him in that portfolio in terms of Article 37 of the Namibian Constitution.
