Air Namibia has no plans to terminate Frankfurt route – official

There has been no decision to suspend or terminate Air Namibia’s Frankfurt route by Cabinet, the airline’s spokesperson, Paulus Nakawa said in a statement on Friday.

Nakawa said this after the route has attracted media attention and featured in public discourse after media reports suggested that Cabinet took a decision for the route to be discontinued due to its financial viability.

“We wish to inform the flying public and all our esteemed stakeholders that Air Namibia shall continue to operate the Windhoek – Frankfurt – Windhoek route as per the published schedule for the foreseeable future,” Nakawa said.

He further added that the board of directors and management of the airline, together with consultants recently appointed by the shareholder, are engaged in a process of re-evaluating the strategy and supporting Air Namibia’s business model that will ensure its sustainability as an ongoing concern.

“The objective of this exercise is to identify opportunities to improve financial performance, enhance efficiency and reduce costs across the airline’s entire route network, including the Frankfurt route,” Nakawa explained.
