New Avis routes promise enough challenges for leisure and serious runners at Avis Xtrail this Sunday

Winter fun for both serious and leisure athletes is scheduled for this weekend with the Standard Bank Winter Avis Xtrail on Sunday 07 July. The event comprises two distances, either 7km or 15.5km which participants can chose to run or walk, according to each individual’s preference.

Starting time for the 15.5 km distance is 08:30 and half an hour later at 09:00 for the 7 km distance.

Avis Xtrail organiser, OTB Sport, said the Avis event is the second in the four-part series which started with the Khomas Hochland Xtrail in June. An indication of just how popular these leisurely runs have become, OTB said they expect between 500 and 600 people to participate.

On this year’s Avis Xtrail, OTB’s Yvonne Brinkmann said they have laid out new routes so that even frequent Avis Dam visitors will experience a unique trail. The routes cover a variety of terrain from jeep tracks to single track with steep climbs and beautiful views.

The race starts and finishes at Eagles Nest Avis Dam. Eagles Nest will put out a full spread of food and drinks for the whole day. The first 500 participants will each receive a sports bag.

The third race in the series, the Windhoek Light Xtrail, will take place at Midgard Country estate on 04 August. The series concludes in Swakopmund with The Dunes Xtrail on 21 September.
