SADC urges member states to implement the regional road map for sustainable HIV/AIDS response
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) last week held the Ministerial meeting for health officials responsible for HIV and AIDS.
The meeting which took place in Windhoek was attended by 12 members states civil society organisations and development partners under the theme, ‘Our Pathway to Sustained HIV Epidemic Control’.
The member states discussed ways of addressing the reduction of external funding in the current HIV and AIDS financial landscape.
At the event delegates approved the SADC Road Map for Sustainable HIV response and urged the member states to implement its specific activities.
The ministers also directed the SADC Secretariat to work closely with UNAID to conduct the assessment of Member States initiative on transition and sustainability and submit a report during the next ordinary joint meeting in November.
Furthermore the Secretariat was told to initiate the process of revising the SADC Framework of Action for Sustainable Financing for Health and HIV approved in 2014 at Victoria Falls.
The SADC Road Map for Sustainable HIV and AIDS Response and its implementation were developed to guide SADC response towards achieving the HIV Fast Track Targets in the context of Universal Health Coverage and Sustainable Development Goals.
