Pro-Ed Akademie is the proud winners of the National Schools Recycling Competition (SRC), a project of the Recycle Namibia Forum (RNF). Mr Johann Lemmer from Rent-A-Drum presented the school with a cheque of N$10,000. Pro-Ed Akademie also won the N$1,500.00 prize for “Best Regional School Coast” and the income of their recycling material amounts to another N$3500.
Lemmer pointed out to the students what a significant role each of them played. The competition winner is calculated based on the most recycling material per learner giving equal opportunity to smaller schools. The level of participation of each learner is one of the most important factors and with Pro-Ed Akademie it came to 40.9 kg per leaner which was double the amount of the second best performing school. Principal Christiaan Grobler said: “our recycling project and the awareness it creates has enabled learners and their families to make recycling part of their daily life”.
As part of the celebrations participants in the Miss Pro-Ed Akademie competition modelled their ball gowns that were made of recycling material. 2013 is the 3rd year the school is competing. “We are more dedicated than ever to increase awareness of our learners on the positive impact recycling has on saving energy and land space and reducing air and water pollution. We strongly believe that when they leave our school they will continue living their daily life responsibly for a better tomorrow,” said Mr Grobler.
