Golden, sultry and mesmerizing classical singing sensation Zanne Stalpelberg is coming to Windhoek to treat opera lovers to her Secret Songs at the Warehouse Theatre next weekend.

One of South Africa’s most prolific and engaging artists, Zanne Stapelberg will grace the Namibian stage in what is described as a magical performance of light opera. This is a show that should not be missed.
Zanne is known as an artist who breaks musical boundaries. She promises to do just that in her latest musical rendition titled ‘Secret Songs’. In Secret Songs the celebrated classical singing sensation will be on stage with acclaimed guitarist James Grace. This time the artist performs the songs she herself listens to in front of the fireplace with a glass of red wine in her hand.
Zanne started her musical training as a violinist under Louis van der Watt. In high school she studied the saxophone with Petra von Zuilenberg and at the University of Stellenbosch, Darly Walters. She was a member of the world renowned Tygerberg Children’s Choir under Hendrick Loock. As a student she received the Hilda Hendricks singing bursary.
In 2001 the singer received the Best Young Opera Singer Award from the Friends of Cape Town Opera as well as the Demindex Opera Bursary. A career highlight was when she  performed in a gala concert for Cape Town Opera in 2008 with tenor Johan Botha. Critics say Zanne mesmerizes you, entices you and cajoles you with her captivating recital of Spanish songs. Having collaborated with artists like Mandoza, Lady Smith Black Mambazo and Karen Zoid, the zeal with which Zanne approaches her music shows, to her it is not just a craft, it is a passion.
Be sure not to miss this musical treat of an infusion of jazz-rock-folk, in this intimate show of Zanne and James doing what they love most, making music. To watch the two perform songs by the likes of Led Zeppelin, Lead Belly, Laurika Rauch, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone, Sting and even Britney Spears music lovers should find themselves at the Warehouse Theatre on Saturday 20 April. Tickets to the show are N$150 and are available at the Biltong Shop in Maerua Mall.
