Learner nets good results

Basketball-Jacobina-UushonaJacobina Uushona, a 12 year old learner at People’s Primary School (PPS), is not only a talented basketball player, but is also the smartest girl at her school. Jacobina achieved between 80% and 100% in seven subjects, making her the best overall achiever. Jacobina is a member of the Basketball Artists School (BAS) in Katutura and has recently proved at the FIBA 3×3 tournament in Windhoek that she cannot only juggle with figures, but also with two basketballs at the same time. She is also a member of PPS’ student body. The BAS is an after school-programme that focuses on homework supervision, academic tutoring, basketball and life skills. Its motto is “Education First – Basketball Second”. Only English is spoken at BAS, which seems to pay off for Jacobina, who achieved 95% in this subject. BAS is run by the German non-profit organisation, ISIBINDI, and the Namibian Basketball Federation, with support from the German Olympic Sports Confederation, the German Basketball Federation and the German Federal Foreign Office. The People’s Primary School is BAS’ main cooperation partner and has now received an own basketball court as well. (Picture) Jacobina proudly shows her certificates of achievement.
