Trekkopje’s injury-free milestone

Areva Namibia’s Trekkopje operations reached a milestone last week Wednesday having booked  820 injury-free days. The uranium mine at Trekkopje belongs to French parastatal, Areva and operates under a prospecting license but has been put under so-called maintenance and care last year. The Areva group emphasizes Safety First and to sustain a frequency rate of zero for 2013 in the Action 2016 campaign.
“The health and safety of our employees are first in our daily activities. This milestone is manifest in the enormous technical and managerial capacity of a safety culture shared by all to ensure a safer work environment,” according to Paul Day, Mine Manager.
During a celebratory ceremony by departments on site, Roy Liesching, Safety Superintendent, thanked all employees for their contribution towards zero medical treatment cases for the same period. “Let us continue with this benchmark in health and safety standards at Trekkopje. I am extremely proud of the team’s achievement, and it again demonstrates the immense capacity of Areva’s Namibian workforce,” Day concluded.
