Despite many challenges, expansion of Maerua Mall Shopping Centre and upgrading of Baines Shopping Centre situated in Pionierspark, are progressing according to plan, Chief Executive Officer of Oryx Properties, Stefan de Bruin told the Economist.
The five-storey office tower at Maerua Mall Shopping Centre is nearing completion, and the letting of the offices is progressing well. De Bruin also said the Baines project was expected to be completed within the budget, but due to the complexity of the Maerua Mall upgrade and extension, a slight overrun of the budget is expected. An additional N$23 million has been allocated to the project to cater for the additional tenant demand.
The upgrade of the current grocer at the Baines Shopping Centre to OK Foods is also underway and it is expected that the renewed anchor, together with the renovated centre, will draw additional feet to the already popular centre. The project is said to be in its final phase of construction with only the fitting of a new ceiling and a brick fence, remaining.
Both projects are expected to be completed within the target dates of April 2013 for Baines Shopping Centre and November 2013 for Maerua Mall.
