On Saturday, 16 March, Bank Windhoek has re-affirmed its support for the Namibian Fistball at a handover ceremony this week. The Bank will support the Fistball Association of Namibia (FAN) with N$35 000, thereby extending its sponsorship agreement with the Association for another year.
The funds will be used by FAN to organise the Namibian National Fistball league and various cup competitions as well as support the youth development programs that the Association has embarked upon.
Elzita Beukes, Communication Practioner: Stakeholder Engagement at Bank Windhoek explained: “Although Fistball is not a major sport code, Bank Windhoek is confident that with our support as well as that of other organisations, the sport will grow to become a sport code to be reckoned with.”
The tournament will be held during October 2013. At this event the continental club champions of Europe, South America and Africa will meet to determine the best club side in the world. Namibia will be represented by the current league champions, Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW).
Michael Baas, President of FAN, reiterated the importance of the sponsorship for FAN. “With the assistance of Bank Windhoek the association can ensure that the league competition, which has been an annual event since 1972, can run smoothly and successfully”, said Baas.
