Top Score finals postponed

The Top Score 7-a-side finals, which were scheduled to take place this coming weekend, have been postponed by a week and will now only take place on Saturday, 02 March, with the quarter finals placed on Friday, 01 March. Namib Mills, who are the sponsor of the annual corporate soccer tournament, this week said the original match schedule was drawn up to accommodate 64 teams but since a total of 72 teams were entered, the tournament would be extended by one week to include all participants.
Highlights from this weekend’s matches, which were days three and four on the tournament schedule, included defending champions Tiger Wheel and Tyre thrashing Nam-Mic by five goals to one, Standard Bank (Head Office) silencing Pupkewitz Mega Tech 4-0 and the School of Medicine upsetting Pupkewitz Nissan with seven goals to none.
The two-time defending champions, Tiger Wheel and Tyre, also beat Namfisa by three goals to zero on Friday evening but were stunned when CIC beat them 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. However, the defending champions are still well on course to make a third consecutive appearance in the quarter finals, now slated for 1 March.
Notable mentions from this weekend’s matches include Omulunga Radio, who took down Living Waters Pharmacy with 4-0 on Friday and MultiChoice beating Standard Bank (Windhoek Branch) by 3 goals to none.
On Saturday the multitude of matches saw some impressive results as well as a commendable turnout from spectators who have no doubt heard about the trophy and N$7000 up for grabs for the team with the best supporters. Some of the noteworthy results from Saturday’s matches are Kanzai Plascon who beat the Dream Team by four goals to one and a battle of banks saw Standard Bank (Khomas Mall) beat Nedbank by three goals to one.
