Dr Iyambo’s state funeral

Sadness continues to distil the air with the death of Honourable minister Dr Abraham Iyambo. The late minister died on Saturday the second of February which was coincidently his birthday. According to a statement released by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Dr Iyambo has been accorded a state funeral. The state funeral will take place at the Pioniers park cemetery on Saturday, 09 February.
Currently a small delegation has travelled to London, England to bring back the body of the late Minister where he passed away in hospital. The delegation, that left Windhoek on Wednesday  returned on Thursday evening. The remains will then be kept by an undertaker for the rest of the evening. On Friday morning, the body will be taken to the late Dr. Iyambo’s residence in Hochland park,Windhoek. Later in the day, the body will be transported to the parliament gardens where a memorial service will take place in honour of the Former Minister of Education. The official service will be from 14h00 to 18h00 but events will continue after that with several interested parties giving their respects as the remains lay in state. This will continue until Saturday morning.
According to the Permanent Secretary, Mbeuta Ua-Ndjarakana, on Saturday morning transport will be available for the residents of Windhoek to travel to the Gammams (now Pioniers Park) cemetery where the minister will be laid to rest. He further cautioned that the nearby residents in Pionierspark should be informed that in accordance with the state funeral rights, a 17 gun salute will be in order as the caskets descends for burial. The national mourning period has been declared by the President Hifikepunye Pohamba to be from Thursday to Saturday. The president has directed that the flags be raised half mast during this period.
