Carriageway coming up

Rehabilitation and expansion of the Okandjengendhi bridge is fast nearing completion. This weak point in the trunk road linking Oshakati and Ongwediva has caused many traffic delays during periods of flooding. As dusk dawns on these northern towns, a glimpse at the once dilapidated Okandjengendhi bridge shows the huge amount of traffic that depends on this bridge every day. The bridge’s improvements are part of the Oshakati Ongwediva main road facelift. Construction which started in 2010, is expected to be completed in the first quarter of this year. The image shows the remaining half of the dual carriageway currently under construction, courtesy of CHICO (China Henan International Co-operation Group). The bridge will not only facilitate the flow of more traffic, it will also provide an all-weather link when these areas are under water. The threatening clouds that often spell disaster for drivers during the rainy season can now be received with excitement. (Photograph taken by Daniel Kavishe).
