Namibian publishing company, Wordweaver, added yet another exciting title to their publishing house with the launch of their book ‘Sumbu’.
The book, which tells a beautifully illustrated story based in rural Namibia, was officially launched in December last year just in time for Christmas. The story follows Sumbu and her family at the time of Namibia’s independence as they return from exile. They settle in a village, but not all inhabitants are happy about the new arrivals.
Through this magical story, the village learns the power of togetherness and caring for one another.
Author and illustrator Romeo Sinkala enjoys drawing, animating and spending time with his family. After some time in the industry working as a web and graphic designer, he decided it was time to get back to his first passion creating stories.
He is a self-taught illustrator, graphic designer and has dedicated himself to realising African stories and folklore for generations to come.
“Our stories, ancient and new, need to be told in all forms of media. Our stories sustain our identity as a people. We, the creatives, are agents of this heritage,” Sinkala said.
The book is available at all Word weaver book stores as well as online at www.wordweaverpublishing.com.
