Bank Windhoek Grand Prix on this weekend

Following the success of the first leg held in Oshakati in December, Athletics Namibia have decided to increase the prize money of the second leg of this illustrious competition from N$45,000 to N$61,700 to appease the developing appetite of track and field competitions in the country.
A total of 33 events will be held which will see pole vault being introduced in the three-leg series for the first time.
“The significant increase of participants in the Bank Windhoek Grand Prix is very encouraging and shows that we are on track in reviving athletics in country” said Frank Fredericks, President of Athletics Namibia.
He added: “The Grand Prix Series will also be a good opportunity for our athletes to qualify for the IAAF World Championships that will take place in Moscow later this year.”
A 60 meter challenge for both retired and active male athletes will add some spice to the event. The winner has the opportunity to “run away” with a total of N$2,000 in prize money. All sports enthusiasts, media houses, companies and the general public are welcome to enter the 60m challenge at an entry fee of N$50. This event is social and does not qualify the athletes for any other events.
The morning session of the Bank Windhoek Grand Prix will start at 09:00 and continue until 12:00 at the Windhoek Independence Stadium, whilst the afternoon session will start at 14:00. Entrance is free.
