Music lovers will get a chance to experience a double barrel concert next week at the NTN Backstage theatre. Two of Africa’s rising stars, DRC national Maryse Ngalula and Elie Kamano from Guinea, are set to wow the crowd with their Afro reggae and traditional rhythms.
Ngalula forged herself a powerful and original musical identity through her advocacy for the empowerment of women, and by building her music on the Mutuashi of the Kasai region. Ngalula enriches these traditional rhythms of the central DRC with Blues, Jazz as well as Zulu music influences from her stay of several years in South Africa.
West Africa native Kamano is undoubtedly a rising star in the Reggae genre, his music is a fusion of afro beats and reggae hence its name Afro reggae. Before venturing into Afro reggae music Kamano was a Hip Hop artist. After trying out new things he ultimately found his vocation in reggae music. Characterized by his melodious voice and his strong lyrics, denouncing the evils that undermine Africa and hamper its development. Also Known as ‘General Kamano’, this artist is now one of the best Afro reggae singers and has even been dubbed the new king of the Afro reggae generation.
The performances form part of their Africa tour. Ngalula and Kamano will perform separately and together, combining their talents, voices and music for a meeting of the different vibes of Kinshasa and Conakry.
Those in the mood for a different vibe in music can make their way to the NTN Backstage theatre next week Tuesday at 20:00. Tickets to see the two perform are available at the NTN box office for N$50 and N$70 at the door.
