Oshana to get faster internet speed, as MTC upgrades capabilities

Following the announcement to invest over N$1 billion in its network upgrade and new sites under construction between now and 2019, MTC recently upgraded five new sites in the Oshana region from 3G to 4G capabilities.

The Oshana upgrades were done on the following sites; Oshakati Mobile Home, Oshana Mall, Omongo, Omege, and Ondangwa Mobile Home.

“This exercises are a necessity due to the fast growing network traffic capacity, in many parts of the country. We do not plan to stop until total population network coverage is a reality. These upgrades are underscored and rest exactly at the core of our two-year-projection. And as we continue, we plan to maintain the momentum,” Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs at MTC, Tim Ekandjo said.

The company said the increased data traffic, compounded by customers’ acquisition of smartphones through the Osmartphona campaign which the company ran last year, are all reasons necessary for the upgrades.

In 2016 through its Osmartphona campaign MTC sold over 5500 subsidized 4G capable devices in combined towns such as Omuthiya, Oniipa, Ondangwa, Ongwediva, Oshakati, Eenhana, Outapi and Opuwo.

“The roll-out of the aforementioned was central, for us to prepare well ahead in making 4G network availability in rural and semi urban areas a necessity, hence it is an undertaking which MTC will see implemented across the country to live up to the expectations of our valued customers,” Ekandjo concluded.
