Shareholder linkages give Standard Bank a global reach in capital markets
Standard Bank Namibia’s impact on investment banking as lead or co-arranger of many capital investment deals, has again been recognised by EMEA Finance at its recent 10th African Banking Awards. This is the second time the bank’s Investment Banking division receives the accolade.
Standard Bank may not be the biggest retail bank but through its South African parent and its Chinese linkages, it has access to a diversified, deep, global pool of capital from international investors. This enables the local bank often to astonish with its investment banking acumen, proving to be more than a match for the regional behemoth, RMB in the FirstRand stable.
Announcing the award, the bank said its Corporate and Investment Banking division serves more than 400 local clients including most local companies as well as multi-nationals in financial services, utilities and infrastructure, retail and the public sector.
For the second consecutive year, Standard Bank Namibia received the ‘Best Investment Bank in Namibia’ award at the 2017 edition of the African Banking Awards.
“EMEA Finance recognizes retail and investment banks, asset managers, brokers and advisers for their accomplishments across the year. Winners exemplify the sound, sustainable management required to switch gears and temper strategies when their business environments change direction,” according to Standard Bank.
Head of Investment Banking, Letitea du Plessis said they “not only provides investment banking services to corporate clients inclusive of full service bank offerings, but endeavour to deliver customized and value-enhancing solutions that are tailored to address the developmental needs in the Namibian economy.”
