Food through play
Manufacturer and distributor of local top class food brands, Bokomo Namibia, have come to the aid of a local community football league through a sponsorship agreement for the next three years.
Through its Pasta Perfecto brand, Bokomo will sponsor the Samora Machel Informal Settlements League. This league caters for 16 teams from Okuryangava, Havana, Hakahana, Okahandja Park, AgsteLaan, Greenwell Matongo and Wanaheda.
Natasja Pieterse, Marketing Manager of Bokomo Foods Namibia said: (This sponsorship was unique as it not only allows the youth of the informal settlements to play their favourite game but it also empowers each of those players individually through nutrition.”
As part of the sponsorship, Bokomo will provide equipment ranging from soccer balls and gear to all the teams as well as trophies and medals for the top three teams at the end of the league season. “Periodically, each player will receive a Bokomo Foods hamper that contains a range of Bokomo products such as Pasta Perfecto or White Star maize meal to take home. All the families of the players will thus benefit directly and indirectly through Bokomo’s association with the league,” Pieterse said.
The league started two years ago and it is played on grass and gravel pitches in Katutura’s informal settlements such as Okahandja Park, Wanaheda and Greenwell Matongo. This season’s league proceedings will end in the first weekend of November 2012.
