All-wheel drive Ford Kuga

Wherever the Kuga goes in Windhoek, it attracts attention.

Wherever the Kuga goes in Windhoek, it attracts attention.

The outstanding Ford Kuga took a while to reach the Namib but when the first advertisements started to appear in auto magazine early in the year, it hinted at a major shift in Ford’s approach to mid-sized SUVs. Sharing visual design cues with Kia’s Sportage and the Nissan Qashqai, it has the same cheeky looks and stance.
Although Ford has already announced the successor to the current Kuga, the latter only arrived in southern Africa in January this year. It came to Namibia about a month later. Interest from potential buyers was immediate and even before the first actual units arrived, dealers ran short on brochures indicating how many people wanted to see the vehicle.
The Ford Kuga is an exciting All-wheel Drive crossover that combines style with technology and promises impressive on-road dynamics coupled with substantial off-road ability. The Kuga is a stylish and exciting proposition for customers. Not only does it look good and promise a rewarding driving experience, but it offers exceptional practicality and comfort too. This SUV has an intelligent AWD system for those who want to use it cross country while Ford’s acclaimed driving dynamics and excellent steering performance ensure conventional passenger car-like handling.
The AWD system transmits as much torque to the rear wheels as needed to ensure the best traction under all possible cornering and accelerating conditions.
At the Kuga’s launch in South Africa, Ford said it prides itself on creating dynamic and fun-to-drive vehicles and the Kuga is no different. Engineers focused strongly on ensuring the Kuga offers a rewarding drive on road while still being able to rough it when conditions demand it.
On the road, the Kuga moves with Ford’s trademark fluidity. The suspension is excellent, smoothing out even the roughest roads while offering secure handling with comparatively little roll. However, if you are new to off-roaders, you should be aware that no car of this type is going to handle as well as a Focus – it is taller and heavier and the engineering is all about disguising the masses involved in cornering.
The Kuga is available with a 2.5-litre Duratec 5-cylinder turbo petrol engine and a Durashift 5-tronic automatic transmission. Maximum power is 147kW and maximum torque is 320 Nm from 1600 to 4000rpm. Claimed top speed is a whisker over 200km/h.
The Kuga is characterised by its bold styling. Distinctive headlights; contoured bonnet; large trapezoidal grille and twin exhausts create a powerful iconic profile that sets it apart. The pronounced wheel arches, stylish air vents and muscular shoulder line provide an energetic stance.

The Kuga comes with a comprehensive 4-year / 120,000km warranty and 4-year / 80,000km service plan. Service intervals are indicated for every 20,000km.
Pricing starts at N$389,900 VAT included.
