The new special edition Hilux Black in White, Silver and Grey

The new special edition Hilux Black is not really black, it comes in white, silver and grey, but it certainly stands out above the more ordinary Hilux crowd.

The Hilux Black is available only in the flagship model, the 2.8 GD Double Cab range.

When anouncing this special edition, Toyota stated that the history of the Hilux is punctuated by many special editions over many years, like the Dakar, the range of Legend editions, and the Heritage. The special editions underline the Hilux’s distinctive ability to combine exclusivity with mass-market appeal, while remaining true to its tough mandate.

This is also the case with the all-new Hilux Raider Black, stated Toyota.

Black is used selectively throughout the bakkie’s exterior styling. There are gloss black inserts in the front bumper, the grille, the window pillars and the roof.

The wheel arches, door handles and outside mirrors, however, are colour-matched with the rest of the vehicle.

Inside, the interior is all-black leather with silver stitching.

The Hilux Black rides proudly and firmly on 18” alloy rims with low-profile (for a bakkie) tyres.

While there’s a hint of retro styling from the distinctive anthracite roof and jet black accents, the cabin treatment and techno features are modern and ergonomically pleasing.

Standard features on the Black menu include full-colour touch screen with reverse camera, 4,2” TFT multi-information display screen, Bluetooth, cruise control, automatic climate control, steering wheel controls, electronic 4×4 switchgear (4×4 models), Hill Assist and Downhill Assist Control (the latter is on 4×4 models only), iMT (manual versions), autolights and a full suite of safety kit ranging from seven airbags to VSC and A-TRAC (4×4 models only).

The 2755cc GD engine puts out 130 kW and an effortless 420Nm of torque from 1600 to 2400 rpm through a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic box.

The Black derivatives range in price from around N$520,000 to just over N$600,000.

The Black carries the standard Hilux 3-year or 100,000 km warranty and a 5-year or 90,000 km service plan.
