Applications open for Chevening scholarships to UK universities
While ten Namibians will depart for the United Kingdom at the end of August to start their post-graduate studies at British Universities, the UK High Commission announced this week it has started the process to select the next batch of students whose study terms will only start in August 2018.
Applications will be accepted up to the first week of November. The successful candidates get full financial support for one year to read a Master’s degree.
The scholarships are part of the UK Government’s so-called Chevening programme under which some 1500 students are selected every year from around the world to do post-graduate studies at a university in the United Kingdom. Namibia is entitled to have as many as ten new bursary holders per year under the Chevening programme.
“The Chevening Secretariat is accepting applications for UK Government scholarships to study in the UK in 2018/2019. Applications for Chevening Scholarships are open between 7 August and 7 November 2017, with applications to be submitted via www.chevening.org/apply. Namibia will be able to send around ten scholars. Two of these scholarships will be offered jointly by Chevening and Petrofund” the High Commission stated on Monday.
Chevening scholarships are awarded to individuals with strong academic backgrounds and who have demonstrated that they possess excellent leadership qualities. The scholarship offers full financial support for future leaders to study for any eligible master’s degree at any UK university while gaining access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural events.
The UK High Commissioner, H.E. Jo Lomas, said: This is a fantastic opportunity to strengthen the Namibia UK educational links. The Namibian Chevening alumni are a bunch of bright, thoughtful, energetic people who are determined to use their studies to make a difference. Becoming a part of the Chevening network instills a strong sense of pride and responsibility; I’ve personally seen how this opportunity is able to transform lives. I encourage many more Namibians to take the chance to study at some of the world’s best universities.”
Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and partner organisations.
