VW SA records best production year ever

Volkswagen Group South Africa surpassed its previous highest production year on Thursday, last week. The company has built 128 535 Polo Vivo’s, New Polo’s and Cross Polo’s at its Uitenhage facility year-to-date. This surpasses the previous total of 128 123 vehicles built in 2006.
The record production year comes as VWSA celebrates its 60th year of existence in the country. To-date, 2 902 549 vehicles have rolled off the company’s production lines since the first Beetle on 31 August 1951.
Other milestones for Volkswagen Group South Africa this year, includes the Volkswagen Polo being named the 2011 Wesbank/SAGMJ Car of the Year in March; the dealer also received the Best Exporter of the Year and Best Exporter Corporate 2011 awards in August at the Exporters Club Eastern Cape 2011 Exporter of the Year Awards in August.
The company took the initiative and was the first original equipment manufacturer to participate in, be rated as a Best Employer and be declared winner in the Automotive Industry Sector in South Africa for 2011/12 by the CRF Institute in its annual Best Employers Ranking.
At the Annual South African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (SAVRALA) awards evening last month, VWSA was awarded Gold in the Leasing and Rental categories respectively and also went on to win the Manufacturer of the Year Award.
