Is this really my car? Ondangwa resident flabbergasted on winning a bakkie

Stephanus Valombola from Ondangwa at first thought it was a scam call but when the SMS he submitted with his tillslip number was read back to him, he realised it was his lucky break. Not only did he win a whole bakkie-load of groceries, he also won the bakkie in which he took it home.

Valombola was one of seven lucky Namibians who each drove away with a brand new Nissan NP200 bakkie filled with groceries as winners of the Win A Ride promotion run by retail chain Pick n Pay.

Explaining why the lucky draw’s deadline was extended by two weeks, Pick n Pay Marketing Manager, Victoria Moller said “We received many more entries than anticipated. Through extending the closing date, we also gave more customers the opportunity to stand a chance to win these great prizes. “The campaign was initially scheduled to run from 29 May to 17 July but due to popularity beyond expectation, the closing date [was extended] to 26 July 2017.”

The seven bakkie filled with groceries winners are Velmarie Fisch from Keetmanshoop, Rudolf Sumseb from Tsumeb, Stephanus Valombola from Ondangwa, Marius Feris from Windhoek, Romano Routh from Swakopmund, Elmary Nella from Windhoek and Shipweya Jafet from Oshakati. To participate in the lucky draw, customers had to SMS their name and tillslip number to a designated cell number from which the winners were selected via a draw audited by Deloitte. Customers had to spend at least N$200 at any Pick n Pay supermarket to qualify for the draw.

In another promotion, customers could win a hamper worth N$500 by sending a selfie with their favourite product to the Pick n Pay facebook page. Those selfies that received the most likes, belong to Regiina Lugambo and Ndengu Shakalunga.

Brand Manager, Dandago Uiras said “Competitions like these are part of Pick n Pay’s efforts to build communities and provide exciting and memorable experiences for its customers.”
