General Manager for Multichoice, Ali Majit this week announced that Dstv will be updating its channel line up due to the new satellite (IntelSat 20) which was launched on 22 August.
The launch of the satelite will not only change the channel numbers line up but will also allow future channel growth. Multichoice have rearranged the channels into genres which has resulted in a change of some of the channel positions and hence channel numbers changing.
The change is set to take place on 1 October, and will happen automatically, subscribers just need to ensure that their decoders are plugged into the power source at the time. Along with the channel numbers line up change, DStv viewers will get an additional channel. M-net will replace its MM1( Movie Magic 1) and MM2 movie offering and expand it to six movie channels, one premiere and five themed channels: M Premiere, M Action, M Family, M Comedy, M Drama and Romance, and M Showcase. These channels will be available in high definition.
In addition to the themed movie channels, Studio Universal and Universal will also be made available in HD. This means that viewers will get 7 additional HD channels, bringing to fourteen the total number of HD channels on Dstv. Multichoice will also be adding a Standard Definition channel Africa Magic Movies 1. M-net and M-net HD will be on channel 101, meaning that Dstv Premium customers with an HD PVR will receive M-net HD on Channel 101.
The change to themed movie channels makes it easier for viewers to find a movie that appeals to their mood or taste by simply going to the relevant themed channel. This change will affect all Dstv subscribers in Southern Africa excluding South Africa.
