Festive season kicks off in capital

JA-LightsThe mayor of Windhoek, Ellaine Trepper, marked the beginning of the festive season by switching on Christmas lights at Zoo Park, last week.
Jazz singer Suzie Eises and the Clive Willemse Production group performed Christmas songs at the event. Trepper said that the festive season is a time of peace and goodwill. “It is also a time for us to reflect on the past year,” she said. Trepper wished Windhoek residents a good festive season. A Christmas market was also held for the first time ever this year. It was aimed at contributing to the alleviation of poverty through income generation. The market further aimed to provide access to the central business district as well as serve as an opportunity for participating small and medium enterprises to sell their products to a wider customer pool. At the event, the mayor also donated goods and groceries to needy charity and welfare organisations in Windhoek.
