Who bakes best?

The judges of the Bakpro National Baking Competition, Roger du Plessis, Hantie Jansen and Andrew Muller began their task of finding Namibia’s best baker with the start of the  Bakpro National Baking Competition 2012 at the Wernhill Shopping Centre. Maryna Gouws won the Amateur Baker Category for Windhoek, while Uli Koempffer and Jeremia Inkono from Super Spar Maerua received first place in the Professional Baker Category for Windhoek. “The total amateurs who registered for Windhoek were 65, but only 24 brought their Madeira cakes for judging on the day. Seventeen professional bakers registered and ten professionals participated on the day. Bakpro encourages all amateur and professional bakers to make use of this opportunity by participating in the remaining towns”, said Magareth Gustavo, Marketing Manager at NamibMills. The Windhoek winners secured their places in the finals taking place in Windhoek on 5 and 6 October. Bakpro will visit Otjiwarongo on 28 July, Walvis Bay on 18 August, Ongwediva on 25 August, Keetmanshoop and Gobabis on 8 and 26 September respectively, in order to select the remaining finalists.
