Six new members join Nampower’s board of directors

16 December 2016 – The Ministry of Mines and Energy today announced the appointment of the new Board of Directors to the Namibia Power Corporation (Nampower).

The Board of Directors are; Mrs. Kauna Ndilula who is appointed as Chairperson. Second in line, is Mr. Daniel Motinga who will serve as Deputy Chairperson of the Board, whilst Ms. Anna Matebele, Mr. Andreas Kanime, Ms. Sara Naanda, and Dr. Detlof von Oertzen will serve as ordinary members.

The Minister of Mines and Energy Hon. Obeth Kandjoze announced that the six new members have been appointed to the board for a four year term. The appointment of the board is effective from January 1, 2017 until December 31, 2020.

According to the ministry, the new board was selected to promote the growth and profitability of Nampower as well as promote local supply, local beneficiation and employment.

Their other responsibilities will be to adhere to the principles of good governance and effective management; promote sustainable growth, poverty eradication and development in Namibia; to act at all times in the best interest of the Company and the shareholders; act with due skill, care and adhere to industry best practices; take charge of the business, affairs and day-to-day administration of the Company; and any other fiduciary duty not limited to the above expected from a board member as in terms of the company regulations or corporate governance.

Kandjoze expressed his renewed confidence and trust in the ability, commitment and fairness with which the newly appointed Directors will be expected to execute their important duties and responsibilities as a member of the Nampower Board.
