Windhoek Lager Africa Golf tourney launched

The Windhoek Lager Africa Golf Championship was launched in Windhoek thisweekr, with the newly added tournament, Windhoek Lager Omeya Open taking place this weekend 05-06 November at the Omeya Golf Club.
This years tournament is includes 36 holes, taking place over two days of 18 holes each day, but Dan will talk to this a bit later.
The Namibia Amateur Golf Union (NAGU) then takes the best 3 scores of each golfer per division into account to calculate who the eventual finalists will be to represent Namibia in the WLAJGC.
This means that the golfers do not have to play in all 5 tournaments, because only 3 scores are needed to qualify. The aim however is to drive more golfers to participate in more tournaments to increase their chances to qualify for the finals.
After including the ladies into this competition for the first time last year, Adri Pienaar and Namibia Amateur Ladies Golf Union (NALGU) have increased their qualifying tournaments for this year.
Since the launch of this event in 2013, the tournament has grown in leaps and bounds. Starting with just 5 countries, it has grown to 11, although it was envisaged to increase the number of participating countries to 15 in 2016.
The way the tournament is structured, lends itself to be able to develop the individual country unions deem fit and could either grow in the number of participating countries and include different categories, eg disabled golf, going forward.
The 11 countries thus sent a golfer in each of the divisions, via. A, B, C and ladies division to participate in the finals here in Windhoek. Along with this, the finals of the Windhoek Lager International Pairs SA took place at the same time where the 24 winning teams from South Africa battled it out for the opportunity for two teams to go through to the World finals in Spain in November 2016.
The other qualifying tournaments for Namibia are: Gold Cup- 19-20 November 2016 at Windhoek Golf and Country Club, Rossmund Open- 03-04 December 2016 at Rossmund Golf Club, Swakopmund, Central Open – March 2017 at Windhoek Golf and Country Club and Namibian Open- May 2017 at Windhoek Gold and Country Club.
