Ehaveco Events Management will for the first time bring to Namibia the Windhoek Fashion Week to showcase the crème de la crème of Namibian and African designers. It also promises to expose local modelling talent to the bigger world of the international catwalk.
The Windhoek Fashion Week starts next week Wednesday, 2 November 2016. It is hosted at the Grove Mall in Windhoek and runs until Saturday 05 November. The show not only promises to showcase exquisite designer clothing by the likes of Melisa Poulton and Hafeni Frans (Namibian designer featured in the fashion bible that is Vogue Magazine), it also includes South African acts such as David Tlale which have been featured in international fashion shows in New York. The Fashioin Week brings to the Windhoek audiences the je ne sais quoi element of modelling as striking faces will strut down the ramp, beguiling both photographers and the audiences with expressions ranging from mischievous to unblinking sultry. South African media celebreties like Bonang Matheba and Trevor Stuurman will help to flair out the event.
Speaking to the Economist, Mavis Braga Elias from the organizing committee shared her excitement about the event.. “The likes of the hit lifestyle programme BET A-list will be present to unpack the Namibian Fashion industry while eNCA Africa covers it from a news perspective. Renown magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Huisgenoot and GQ will also be present snapping all those extravagant looks on the red carpet and on the runway.” she stated.
Elias said that they are tight-lipped about the details on the setup at the venue Grove Mall because they want the public to be dazzled. “All we know for now, is that it is going to be on the rooftop area. Yes that big space that is always filled with cars.” she exclaimed. With regard to the models chosen for the catwalk she explained that modelling is not only about looking pretty but it also requires a lot of background work, adding that the models have been on a strict diet to make sure they fit perfectly into designer garments. She said that the designers are also tight lipped about their latest collections as they want the big revealing on the runway to be a surprise. Elias said the Abryanz Style & Fashion Awards (ASFA’s) organizers confirmed that they have finalized a list of nominees after having received hundreds of nomination from the public across Africa. Eight Namibians have been nominated.
