South African Music Awards winner Nianell is set to perform on Namibian soil again. The songstress is scheduled to perform at three venues in Walvis Bay, Windhoek and Omaruru which is her home town.
Nianell formally known as Sonia Nel is a pianist, guitarist, composer and mother of triplets. She grew up in Windhoek and graduated with a 3-year diploma in light music from Pretoria Technikon in South Africa. She also studied classical music at Trinity College in London, UK and the University of South Africa (UNISA).
Her music has been described as having elements of Folk, Pop, R&B, Country, Classic and even Celtic music. The four-octave vocal range singer shot to fame with her first song ‘Who painted the moon’ a song that was featured by another international singer Hayley Westernra on the album ‘Pure’. The album sold over 2 million copies and Nianell’s version of the song was featured as a single on the album.
Nianell has proved to be Namibia’s most successful external musician and has won several awards including ‘Best English Contemporary Album’ and ‘Best Female Songwriter’ for her 2011 album ‘Who painted the moon’.
The beautiful singer has shared the stage with international stars such as Christina Aguilera, Italian Opera singer Andrea Bocelli, Westlife, Diana Ross,Columbian pop-princess Shakira, Freshly Ground and the Grammy Award winning Soweto Gospel Choir. She has performed in many countries including Zambia, Botswana, Ireland, Belgium, Latvia and France.
This year the singer comes back with yet more exhilarating performances as she sings in her home town,on 04 July, at the coast on 06 July and in the capital for her final performance at the Kalahari Sands Hotel and Casino on Saturday 07 July.
