Motivating learners at Okandjatu School

The learners of Okandjatu received an unexpected but very welcome windfall last week when the FNB Foundation donated a substantial amount for a Study Skills workshop, a Youth Motivational project, a sports project and for academic awards.
Upon presenting the school with a donation of N$40,000, FNB’s Corporate Social Investment Manager, Revonia Kahivere, said Okandjatu’s learners face many challenges like teenage pregnancies, early school drop-outs, low self-esteem and a general lack of support. “At FNB Namibia we believe that a country needs an assertive, strong generation who is able to contribute and lead change, in the face of emerging global challenges. To build a better, stronger Namibia, we need to empower our young people to increase their ability to influence what is happening in their lives and communities. If we give the youth this opportunity, the future is going to look very different.”
She urged other businesses to do much more to support young people so that they can dream big, saying “We hope that our contribution will go a long way in solving some of the challenges you face. Rome was not built in one day and I encourage you to tackle your issues one day at a time – starting with the most pressing ones on the first day.”
