Successful season for Agra

Tinus Louw, Frans and Ellie Lottering, André Botes (Standard Bank), Bertie and Willie Louw, Gerhard Mukuaima (Standard Bank), Erich Freytag, Yuri and Boesman Davids, Johan en Leon Human, Herman Coetzee and Leon Koch of Standard Bank.Agra has concluded a very successful weaner auction season with the announcement of national and regional weaner calf champions. Standard Bank sponsored the event with N$66 000.
Willie Louw and family walked away with prizes worth more than N$20,000 as Namibian national weaner calf champion as well as regional winner for the northern region in both the categories for feedlot potential and veld potential.
In the central region, Human Farming was the champion with the best veld potential weaners and Frans and Ellie Lottering were awarded winners in the category: weaners with best feedlot potential. The weaners of Boesman Davids showed the best veld potential at the Nomtsas weaner auction, earning him the winning prize for the southern region while Erich Freytag was awarded southern regional winner with best feedlot potential weaners.
Judging of the weaner calves was done by Agra professionals who are experts in the field. Optimal weaning weight, good growth potential under feedlot and free range conditions, and applied animal husbandry such as dehorning, brand marking and animal health earned producers good points.
At the 2011 Agra weaner auctions, a total of 16 000 calves were sold at an average price of N$4245 per animal.
