Boxing star to lift flag at Olympics

Boxing sensation Jonas Junius has officially been named Namibia’s flag bearer for the Olympic Sommer Games beginning on Friday, 5 august in Rio de Janeiro.
The honor was handed over to him by the Namibia National Olympic Committee’s (NNOC) President, Abner Xoagub, on Tuesday. He will lead a team of ten athletes to the games in Brazil.
Junius burst onto the scene in dramatic fashion by clinching the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland’s Capital Glasgow after a narrow loss to Josh Taylor in 2014.
Ever since then, the 22-year old from Swakopmund has been on of Namibia’s most successful athletes, underlining his exceptional quality by securing the second place at the All Africa Games last year in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) capital Brazzaville.
Despite his enormous success over recent years, the reserved boxer has set his sight on the grand price at this year’s Olympic Summer Games, to win the gold medal. To achieve this goal, Junias has been in training for the past four month already, adding swimming training to his boxing routine to be in the best shape possible.
