SheGlows Talent Agency, an agency that represents female singers, models, dancers, presenters, video vixens and entertainers, will host its first talent show titled All-Female Talent Show on 30 July at the Katutura Community Art Centre (College of the Arts, Leonard Auala Street). The show, which is the first of its kind will feature only women, both established and new talents, who will be showcasing their abilities with modeling, singing, dancing and acting.
This talent show aims to ensure that the best talent in the country, irrespective of socio-economic background, gets an opportunity to be recognised and nurtured. The talent agency is in the process of building a talent portal to help establish Namibia as a definite niche for world class talent. The agency also identifies and develops new talent, promotes and arranges auditions and gigs for performers.
“Most of these young girls wish to use their talent to earn a little money for taxi, toiletries, bread at home – just to mention a few – because there are no other means. That’s why I try my best to mentor them and bring in people who can motivate and train them,” said the owner of the agency, Selma Neshiko.
When Neshiko first started the agency, her focus was always to help Namibian talent to reduce unemployment among the youth, train young Namibians to use their talent and stay off the streets by being productive.
“Talent is not really recognised in the country but I believe it’s one of the activities or initiatives that can help young people be responsible and use their time wisely instead of being involved with intolerable behaviours,” Neshiko said.
As a non-profit youth organisation, the agency relies on gigs or Good Samaritans who can help in any way to train and mentor the different talents.
“So far I’ve been paying for all of my talents, rehearsal venue, food, clothing, and photo shoots, which is very costly. I’m very passionate about this and that’s why I decided to host this show to raise funds. These funds will not only benefit the Talents under the agency but we wish to host another Fun Day in October to prepare Christmas gifts for vulnerable children.”
Supporting acts at the show include Melissa Poulton who will be dressing the models.
