Namupala, Haitope to take on the Sanlam Cape Marathon

This year, Lavinia Haitope and Reonard Namupala will represent Namibia at the the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon and will compete in the 42.2 km leg, as announced on Thursday, in Windhoek.
Set to be held for the third time since its re-launch in 2014, the annual 42km race takes place in the picturesque Mother City on 18 September, and proudly retains IAAF Silver Label status.
Lavinia Haitope: one of the Namibian Athletes said, “I am so excited about representing Namibia in Cape Town. I have run in many different countries including Botswana and Denmark to mention a few. I will ensure that we give our best and that our country’s talent is seen and noticed. Alongside my co-athlete Reonard Namupala, we promise that this will be our best race yet”.
Sanlam General Manager: Corporate Support Evans Simataa at the announcement said, “Last year our Namibian athletes did us very proud. Athletes, Maynhardt Kauanivi and Ndeshimona Ekandjo both ran the 42KM race and both ranked high in their respective categories. Mynhardt ranked 12th in the male category and ran a remarkable 2:18:24, and Ndeshimona ranked 10th in the female category and ran an amazing 2:49:42.
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is managed by a joint partnership between Western Province
Athletics (WPA), ASEM Running and the City of Cape Town.
The weekend festival, held over two days with the marathon race taking centre stage on the Sunday, will again consist of a variety of options for participants.
Meanwhile, Erwin Naimhwaka – Secretary General, Athletics Namibia said, “We are proud of last years’ representatives. Because of his record time at last years’ Sanlam Cape Town Marathon; Mynhardt was selected to represent us at this year’ Olympics in Brazil.
Athletics Namibia is thankful to SANLAM Namibia for supporting our athletes. “We are excited that this year you have again invited and assured an opportunity for our athletes to compete in the SANLAM Cape Town Marathon. The athletes are ready and eager to give their best and to do us proud.”

Organisers are again calling on runners of all abilities to challenge you by participating in the annual endurance event on a flat and fast course which is ideal for experienced and beginner athletes.
