Breweries celebrates 500 years in traditional style

Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) continued with the 500-year anniversary of the Beer Purity Law of 1516, The Reinheitsgebot. part of this celebration included the honouring of Namibian traditions and cultures through a special experience with ethnic Namibian cuisine, song and dance.
NBL Managing Director, Wessie van der Westhuizen said, “The Reinheitsgebot is one of the oldest traditions in the world and continues to have meaningful impact, specifically on beer lovers who appreciate a good quality beer. The Reinheitsgebot anniversary is also a time for us to celebrate where we come from and who we are. Thus it makes sense that NBL, a proudly Namibian establishment that brews beer according to this rich, old-aged philosophy, celebrate the traditions and cultures that makes this nation the unique country it is, with its rich heritage.”
Many NBL activities are currently underway and will continue for the year, as part of the Reinheitsgebot anniversary celebrations. This includes a story-telling initiative at one of the city’s much loved traditional establishments, the Xwama Restaurant in Katutura. NBL stakeholders are treated to an all-inclusive Namibian culture experience, with food, song and dance, accompanied by NBL beers brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot.
NBL Senior Brand Manager, Claudia Opperman said, “Both Namibian tradition and the Reinheitsgebot have one thing in common – they celebrate rich and authentic history with the meaningful and positive impact that tradition has on people’s lives. Two things that Namibia can be very proud of, are its uniqueness and diversity. This is not only displayed in our contrasting landscapes, but in the fact that this country is one of few in the world that has over 11 ethnic groups, enriching us with various backgrounds, cultures and traditions.”
Meanwhile, President of the Namibia Retailing Traders Association (NTRA), Andreas Nuule attended one of the story-telling evenings at Xwama Restaurant. Nuule said, “I thoroughly enjoyed my time. While I saw the activity as a team building opportunity with my other invited colleagues, this evening turned out to be very educating and interesting.”
