Breweries to sponsor Presidents Cup

The annual 2016 Dr. Hage Geingob Soccer Cup tournament will see two local club teams compete against two international club teams for the prestigious Dr. Hage Geingob Cup.
For the third consecutive year Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) – subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group is the main sponsor of this much anticipated event on the local sports calendar. .
Managing Director of NBL, Wessie van der Westhuizen said NBL’s commitment to the Dr. Hage Geingob Soccer Cup tournament is affirmation of the company’s commitment to the Namibian nation, and the passion of the people. Van der Westhuizen: “What makes this event even more exciting is the fact that it allows for the two qualifying local teams the opportunity to compete against two international clubs. This is another opportunity for our local club stars to show what it means to be born and brewed in Namibia. NBL is proud to be the founding sponsor of this prestigious event, through our premium beer brand Windhoek Draught. This is testimony to how passionate NBL is towards the Namibian people, in particular their love for soccer.”
President Hage Geingob during his address emphasized on the relationships built in sports. Geingob: “A friendship is being continued through sport. Soccer is not only a game we play, but it is a tradition.”
Geingob further encouraged the Namibian club teams that will have the privilege to play this year – Tigers, as winners of the MTC Premier League has already qualified to play in the 2016 Dr. Hage Geingob Soccer Cup, while the second team to participate will be voted for by the public through an SMS line that was made available at the launch.
The two South African teams that will be competing against the Namibian clubs are Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns – the winner of the previous two Dr. Hage Geingob Soccer Cup Tournaments.
The SMS line which the public should make use of to vote for the team who they want to see compete in the 2016 Dr. Hage geingob Soccer Cup on 6 and 7 August, is 5003. The voting codes for the teams are as follows: Black A for Black Africa FC; Tura M for Tura Magic FC; Stars for African Stars FC; Gunners for Mighty Gunners FC; Blues for LHU Blue Waters FC; Civics for Civics FC; Pirates for FNB Orlando Pirates FC: Arrows for Eleven Arrows FC; UNAM for UNAM FC; Rundu FC for Rundu Chiefs FC; Young FC for Young Chiefs FC; Citizens for Citizens FC; Fighters for Life Fighters FC; African FC for Young African FC, and Chiefs for Chief Santos. The SMS line is open until the end of July.
