How to reconcile pro-growth expansion and fiscal consolidation
Presenting his annual budget speech in Parliament on Thursday afternoon was Minister of Finance Hon. Calle Schlettwein. This year’s budget theme, Schlettwein explained, is underpinned by two fundamental policy objectives. The first is to reassert and re-establish a sustainable path for public finance in an effort to maintain macroeconomic stability. The second objective is to unlock potential economic growth, job creation and poverty eradication, in line with HE Dr Hage Geingob’s call for Prosperity for All. Prior to the tabling of the budget, Hon. Schlettwein briefly engaged the media displaying the budget document on the steps of the Tintenpalast. Supporting the minister are, from the right; Mr. Ipumbu Shiimi, Governor of the Bank of Namibia, Hon. Schlettwein, Mr. Junias Etuna Kandjeke, Auditor General, Deputy Minister, Hon Natangwe Ithete and Deputy Auditor General, Goms Menette. (Photograph by Musa Carter)
