Jazz Etcetera and NamJams sparkle on Thursday and Friday evenings at Hilton Kalabar
Live Jazz, Afro-Jazz, Reggae, Afro Pop and R&B rule at the Hilton Kalabar on Thursday and Friday evenings.
The shows are strictly ‘live’ (no backing tracks), involve some of the best Namibian musicians and are free of charge. Jazz Etcetera on Thursday evenings hosts laid back acts from Jazz to traditional African, while the Friday evening NamJams shows are more about up-beat music and jive. This Friday eve, 19 February 2016, features an entertainer of stature, Mamma Priscilla, also known as the Namib Desert Queen. She is the winner of the latest Namibian Talent Show (2015), with confident and epic performances throughout the various rounds of the competition. “My late mother always used to tell me I could sing, long before I could speak” she claims. Mamma Priscilla offers African classics from Miriam Makeba to Brenda Fassie. Her original single: “Malva Pudding” was a resounding hit at Song Night and will feature on the Song Night Compilation Album currently in production.
Lize Ehlers is next at Jazz Etcetera on Thursday evening 25 February. Lize performs songs from her three CDs plus world standards and evergreens, accompanied by Wayn Mhlanga on guitar and Bradley from Brothers Anthony on backing vocals.
Finally, Brothers Anthony perform on Friday 26 February (NamJams). Their show offers a mixture of South African Afro-Pop interspersed with popular ‘Boys to Men’ type R&B, African Jive, Jazz, Blues & Pop.
The Jazz Etcetera and NamJams concerts at the Hilton Kalabar take place on Thursday and Friday evenings 19:00 to 21:30 respectively and are open to the public. No entry is charged additionally for the shows. Patron have normal access to the convenience of the Kalabar at its standard fares.
